TITLE: Innovative Remediation Options & Molecular Biological Tools for Performance Monitoring
SPEAKER:  Dora Taggart, Dr. Kerry Sublette, Brad Elkins, PG
DATE: April 12, 2017
TIME: 12:00PM – 1:00PM EDT

Innovations continue in the environmental remediation industry – innovative treatment approaches and products to tackle tough situations and continued advances in molecular biological tools (MBTs) for more conclusive and comprehensive performance monitoring.

Brad Elkins (EOS Remediation) will present an introduction to in situ bioremediation applications, and methods in selecting an electron donor or acceptor. A review of site design considerations and performance monitoring recommendations will also be presented.

Dora Taggart (Microbial Insights, Inc.) will continue the presentation with an applied discussion of molecular biological tools (MBTs) including qPCR, QuantArray, CSIA and other commonly utilized techniques to monitor performance of enhanced bioremediation strategies.

To conclude the presentation, Professor Kerry Sublette (University of Tulsa) will present case studies where innovative in situ bioreactors (ISBRs) have been employed to promote biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents at sites where other approaches have failed. Bio-Enhance ISBRs are in-well bioreactors using Bio-Sep® beads as the packed bed matrix providing an incredibly large surface area for bacterial colonization and growth. The ISBRs are designed to be deployed in standard 2 and 4 in. monitoring wells and are configured for gas-lift groundwater circulation through the Bio-Sep® packed bed and continuous injection of amendments from a surface source to promote microbial growth.
