EOS Remediation

September 2012

TITLE:
Organic Substrate Selection – Factors to Consider
SPEAKER: Bob Borden, P.E., Ph.D with Solutions-IES, Inc.
DATE: September 19, 2012
TIME: 12:00PM – 1:00PM EDT

There are a variety of different organic substrates available to stimulate in situ anaerobic bioremediation processes.  Essentially all these materials ferment to hydrogen (H2) and acetate and can support reductive dechlorination.  However, there are some critical differences.  This webinar will provide an overview of substrate fermentation processes, how these processes impact site remediation, and how new spreadsheet tools can be used to design in situ remediation systems using soluble substrates (e.g. lactate and molasses) and different slow release substrates.  Some key topics covered will include:

How to calculate amount of hydrogen (H2) and acid (H+) released by different substrates.
Effect of compound structure on rate of substrate fermentation.
Pros and cons of complex substrates.
How to design a soluble substrate injection system with new ESTCP funded design tool.
