Patent Validates EOS Remediation's Strong Fondation of Intellectual Property
Raleigh, North Carolina, August 5, 2008 (updated January 15, 2009) - EOS Remediation, LLC, a developer and manufacturer of advanced technologies for groundwater restoration, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded a patent reissue to Solutions-IES. The reissued patent, U.S. Patent No. RE40,448, is for groundwater bioremediation using emulsified oils. EOS Remediation, LLC is Solutions-IES' exclusive licensee for this technology. On November 3, 2008, one of our competitors asked the United States Patent Office to re-examine two of the 64 claims of our reissued patent with respect to certain references, pointing out that those two claims, which are among the expanded claims granted by the Patent Office, are not limited to microemulsions. As is typical, the Patent Office has granted that request. We will respond appropriately, and expect once again to prevail. Our patent remains in full force and effect during this process.
The use of emulsified oils, EOS®, for groundwater bioremediation is a significant advancement in the treatment of groundwater contaminated with chlorinated solvents, energetic materials, nitrates, oxidized heavy metals, and radionuclides. The proven EOS® Technology substantially reduces the cost to restore contaminated aquifers.
EOS Remediation uses sustainable green chemistry in its family of groundwater bioremediation products. The addition of emulsified vegetable oils provides food for the microorganisms and stimulates biodegradation activity. The EOS® Technology has successfully turned land once deemed unusable into productive and safe real estate. The company annually completes more than 200 projects worldwide. Since first developed by Dr. Borden in 1999, millions of pounds of EOS® have been successfully applied at sites throughout the world.
